The year of construction "A[nno] D[omini] MDCCCCVII" 1907 is immortalized above the main entrance of the former children's home. Likewise the motto of Count Recke (1791-1878) from the book of Isaiah "Remind my children, the work of my hands, to me". A few years after the Graf Recke Foundation moved to Wittlaer, the architecturally interesting three-winged house was built as the Neu-Düsselthal children's home. As early as 1816, Recke laid the foundation for one of the oldest diaconal institutions in Germany by taking in orphaned children in his father's Overdyck Castle near Bochum.
