Hiking

Opposite the church is a national cemetery. For example, the famous poets Einar Benediktsson (1864 - 1940) and Jonás Hallgrímsson (1807 - 1845) are buried here. Although, the latter is not there at all! In 1946, the wrong body was mistakenly sent from a cemetery in Copenhagen to Iceland for reburial. In reality, Jonás Hallgrímsson's grave contains an unknown Danish baker. And then that poor baker is not even lying there quietly, because a nude report was shot on the grave and a helicopter pilot once mistook it for a heliport.

Hiking

To the east of the church is the Icelandic National Cemetery. It was designed by Guðjón Samúelsson and constructed in 1940. Here rest the national poets Einar Benediktsson (1864-1940) and Jónas Hallgrímsson (1807-1845).
