On December 23, 24 and 25, 1944, Malmedy was bombed by the US Army - although the city was in American hands. More than 250 people died.
More than 200 citizens from Malmedy alone fell victim to the bombing, as well as dozens more who had been evacuated to Malmedy from neighboring towns.
