The hermitage was built in 1446 by the Prince Abbot of Stavelot, Henri de Merode, so that the monks could retreat there. A new building was erected on the same site in 1742.

The hermitage of Bévercé dates back to 1446, during the reign of Henri de Mérode, Prince Abbot of Stavelot-Malmedy. Since then hermits have been living here without interruption. The current building dates from 1742. It was restored in 1925 and 1985 and is a listed building.
