Deuten shares a centuries-long history with Wulfen. Deuten was one of three farming communities in the municipality of Wulfen, which was independent until 1975. Even after the incorporation into the town of Dorsten in 1975, both initially formed the district of Wulfen. In 1978 a separate district of Deuten was formed.
Today's straightened common border between the Dorsten districts of Deuten and Wulfen runs from the south predominantly along the Wienbach to the B58 and is then formed by the district road leading to Lembeck. Muna and Wienbecker Mühlenhof are now in Deuten territory! Nevertheless, they are treated as peripheral areas in the Wulfen Wiki, as are the nature reserve and the Reich Labor Service camp. The old borders can be seen from the adjacent illustration of the original Wulfen cadastral map from 1822, with the inner border between the three former farming communities of Dorf (Wulfen), Dimke and Deuten. See the Limits page for more information.

The Wulfen/Deuten district committee existed from 1975 to 1994.

The parish of Herz Jesu, which was elevated to rectorate by St. Matthäus Wulfen with the inauguration of the church of the same name on August 13, 1942, has formed a Catholic parish community with the latter since 2003, led by Pastor Siegbert Hellkuhl. On August 24th, 2014, the formation of the new large parish of St. Matthew, which includes Herz Jesu Deuten and St. Barbara, took place.
