The Pauli Fountain in Erlangen, a landmark of the market square, was made possible in 1889 through a generous donation from the wealthy citizen Friedrich Salomon Pauli and his wife Julie. Designed by Nuremberg native Friedrich Wanderer, the sculptor Georg Leistner created the allegorical figures in bronze, cast by Christoph Lenz, while Georg Suter was responsible for the stonework.

The figures on the fountain's rim represent "Erlangia," which represents the city's trade and commerce, and the "Alma Mater," the University of Erlangen with its scientific symbols. At the center of the fountain are relief portraits of important figures: Margrave Christian Ernst, who founded the new town of Erlangen; Margrave Alexander, who established the university; and Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria.

This fountain in the middle of the Erlangen market and funded by the Pauli Foundation was built in 1889. The style of the fountain can be attributed to the late Renaissance. The figures that are represented are Erlangia for local industry and the Alma Mater for local science. Furthermore, Christian Ernst and Alexander can be found as Margraves as well as Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria.

It has been beautifully decorated and is located in the middle of Erlangen's market square.
It's great when there are stalls selling their goods around it.
I would love to travel 200 - 300 years into the past to see what it looked like and what was going on there back then.
