The Erlanger Wiesengrund is a landscape conservation area and part of the Franconia sand axis. With an area of around 2,000 square kilometers, the Franconia sand axis is the largest loose sand area in southern Germany. The sand has shaped people's lives in Franconia for centuries. This is evidenced by names such as Sandreuth, Bamberg's Sandkerwa or the many houses built from sandstone.
