For 140 years, the 18 meter high brick tower, which stands in the shadow of the TV tower, has been stretching upwards in Wachwitz. In summer it is hidden by the leaves of the trees, only in winter can it be seen from afar.

According to the current tenants, the mysterious Order of the Good Templars celebrated secret rites here until it was banned by the Nazis in 1934.

In 1995, descendants of these Templars attempted to repossess the tower. However, this failed at the office for the regulation of open property issues.

There is an interesting video of the tenant on Vimeo.

Former observation tower, which belonged to the lower Johannisbad.

The painters Curt Rothe and Erhard Benscheck lived in the Johannisturm.

It is currently a residential building in the immediate vicinity of the television tower and is located on the hiking trail from the television tower to the Elbe.

The Johannesturm was built in 1876 as an observation tower and once formed a shared excursion site with the "Johannesbad" (an inn that was developed from a grinding and cutting mill with a gondola pond below the hill). Since 1939, both have been privately owned and inhabited.
