“Le Vent Souffle Où Il Veut” (The wind blows where it wants) is an impressive work of art by French artist Daniel Buren. This colourful work consists of one hundred flagpoles with an equal number of weathercocks attached to them, which together form a kind of forest. The weathercocks are painted in ten different colours, chosen from the RAL colour palette, and attached to the poles in alphabetical order. The work of art was originally exhibited during Beaufort03 in 2009 on the beach of De Haan and was moved to the Kromme Hoek in Nieuwpoort in 2011. Here, walkers and cyclists can enjoy the unique and lively view, while the weathercocks come to life in the wind. The work is also visible to the crews of the boats that sail in and out of the harbour channel.
