Hoeve Caestert has been neglected for many years but is now being completely rebuilt with the intention of eventually integrating it fully into the larger story of the Grenspark Jeker en Maas. The farm is owned by DNF, the Walloon counterpart of Nature and Forest, which has appointed Natagora as coordinator of the cross-border project for Hoeve Caestert and the surrounding area. The resources from the Recovery Plan for Wallonia are partly used to valorise some places in the region for ecotourism, and Caestert is one of them. It is not just about rebuilding the farm, nor just about the farm itself. For example, work is also being done with the other partners from the Flemish and Dutch side on, among other things, the Cycling under the Ground project, a pedestrian suspension bridge 50 meters above the Albert Canal and an improvement in the management of all parts of the plateau of Caestert, whereby the farm will then have a reception center. Until then, there is a pop-up reception center called Villa Castrum, which is currently only open on Sunday afternoons. Other partners include Natuurpunt and Natuurmonumenten (Netherlands). Hoeve Caestert is a farm located on the Walloon part of the Sint-Pietersberg also called Plateau van Caestert, about 250 meters south of the border with Maastricht and almost immediately adjacent to the Flemish municipality of Riemst. The farm is located in the protected area of Thier de Caster. Hoeve Caestert was part of Castle Caestert, which burned down in 1972. The Chapel of Caestert used to be next to the castle and behind the farm. The farm is built in the characteristic Maasland renaissance style. The keystone above the entrance dates from 1686 and gives access to the courtyard of the farm. After the farm was abandoned by the last tenant, Walther Duchateau, the farm fell into disrepair. Natuurpunt Riemst was able to temporarily use the farm and caretaker's house, until it was also destroyed by fire on 1 April 2013. In the years after the fire, many agencies have been lobbying for the restoration of the farm; mainly from neighboring Riemst. The Walloon Region is now busy restoring the farm.

This old farm has been brought into the modern era in a special way. Whether you like it is a matter of taste
