    the Jeker has its source near Borgworm and flows through a large part of Haspengouw. The river is 55 km long. Near the mouth in the Maas near Maastricht, the Jekerdal has fairly steep slopes. In the old cities of Tongeren and Maastricht, the river had an important significance for the tannery and the cloth industry. Before 1930, the Jeker was rich in fish, but discharges from sugar beet indutry and sewers put an end to this.
