The Annabos forest near Uden has been designated a Wet Natural Gem because the area has a unique water management system directly related to the Peelrand fault. The higher-lying area along the fault line is constantly moist due to rising groundwater, giving the forest a character not often seen on the sandy soils of East Brabant. In the Annabos forest, wet swamp forest zones, iron-rich seepage water, marshy lowlands, and drier edges alternate within a short distance. This diversity makes the area ecologically valuable and sensitive at the same time.
