The artillery barracks were built in 1900 near the new infantry barracks on the edge of the parade ground. The building ensemble included u. a. two three-storey crew buildings, gun sheds, horse stables and wagon buildings. For the privileged officers, the staff building and the officers' mess were added in 1912/13. At that time, the Erlangen garrison numbered 2,200 men - almost 10 percent of Erlangen's population.
