Schadeck Castle is a stronghold. It owes its name to a family dispute. Heinrich von Westerburg, a cousin of the then owner Runkel, had a castle built on the other side of the Lahn from the castle of the same name - "a corner to damage Castle Runkel". That's how they say the name came about.
He didn't really succeed, and so the castle fell victim to conquest and destruction several times - especially during the Thirty Years' War, Schadeck Castle had to endure suffering and destruction.
In 1998, the castle was completely renovated and restored, as it had previously shown strong signs of collapsing.
Today, Schadeck Castle is privately owned and partly inhabited, so that a visit is not possible.
