The historic Boizenburg ramparts were probably built in the 12th century. They served to protect the developing city on the Boize. More than 45 bridges over the moat gave the city the nickname "Little Venice of the North".

The two moats that surround the city center are well worth seeing. Nice old houses and lots of little bridges.
