The largest synagogue in Frankfurt is the Westend Synagogue on Freiherr-vom-Stein-Straße. The building survived the Kristallnacht pogrom as well as the subsequent years of Nazi rule - albeit badly damaged. Frankfurt's Westend Synagogue is an architectural gem and worth a visit just because of its magnificent dome. The original building was inaugurated on September 28, 1910 after two years of construction. The interior was one of the most elaborately designed synagogue interiors in Germany.
