In 1974, the measures to protect against flooding on the Ems were completed with the completion of the Emssee. Part of the Emsaue next to the expanded Ems river was expanded into a lake, which is embedded in a spacious park. Where wasteland, meadows and Warendorfs once were famous in Europe, today there is a 1.4 km long lake that stretches from the overflow threshold of the Ems to the Lohwall and here includes the oxbow lake of the river. The park has developed into a popular local recreation area for Warendorf residents.
