    Tips

    February 26, 2023

The Precipice Trail is the most difficult and dangerous trail in the park, but for those comfortable with exposed heights it is a thoroughly rewarding experience.

After the Orange & Black Path junction the trail is one way (up only) and should not be hiked in poor weather, as it involves climbing along iron rungs along the side on an exposed cliff face on the east side of Champlain Mountain. If you feel uncomfortable hiking any part of the lower section of the trail before the junction, it is advisable to continue on the Orange & Black Path instead. The Precipice Trail is sometimes closed in the summer due to nesting peregrine falcons. More information on trail closure due to nesting falcons: nps.gov/acad/planyourvisit/conditions.htm
