The Cadillac South Ridge Trail is a great route to the summit of the highest mountain in Acadia National Park. When descending this route, you constantly have spectacular views of the sea to the south. Halfway from the summit to Featherbed, a small mountain lake in a depression along the trail, you come to the turnoff to the Cadillac West Face Trail. Along the way, red signs warn several times about the danger of this route.

From the junction southward along South Ridge, hiking is easy and views of the entire southeastern region of the island from Great Head all the way to Pemetic and Day Mountain stretch out to the horizon. To the west, Sargent Mountain towers above its peers as the second highest peak in the park. The Cadillac West Face Trail is steep and hazardous and is only recommended for very experienced hikers in good conditions. To the north the trail enters a patch of woods before reaching the Cadillac Summit.
