Right next to the Natural History Museum is a rope pulley to commemorate the coal mining in Dortmund, which ended after almost 700 years of activity in 1987 with the closure of the Mining Minister Stein. It comes from Bergkamen of the Grimberg 3, which reached a depth of 1635 m in 1989, making it the deepest shaft in Europe. With its 6.05 m diameter, the disc is one of the largest ever to be used in the Ruhr area.
