Small but powerful - that's Rabenscheid. A nice place, located on several hiking trails and with a beautiful old church. According to Wikipedia, the name comes from the "great raven, the wise birds of Wotan, which once filled the densely wooded heights with their sonorous calling, and" Scheid "(" Border Forest "or" forest "in general)."

Rabenscheid was already inhabited 2000 years ago when the first villages were laid out in the then heavily wooded Westerwald. The forest areas were soon cleared to pursue agriculture and animal husbandry. The name of the village, which belongs to the municipality of Breitscheid, is derived from the ravens of Wotan, who filled the once so densely wooded heights with their sonorous calls, and from "Scheid", which used to stand for "border forest" or "forest" in general . Rabenscheid can therefore be freely translated as "village in the forest of Wotan birds". Rabenscheid once had a surrounding town wall and a fortified tower, which was later expanded to include a nave.
