Hiking
The pond was built between 1707 and 1711 as a fishpond and water reservoir. Today it is a local recreation area with a campsite. The circular trail around the Heisterberger Weiher is also ideal for hiking and dog walking.

Cycling
The Amdorfbach, which is fed from several springs in a meadow immediately south-west of Heisterberg and flows into the Dill about 12 km further east near Burg, was widened in the years 1707-1711 by order of Prince Wilhelm II of Nassau-Dillenburg about 1.5 km dammed west of its headwaters by a 250 m long dam as a fish pond. The work was largely carried out by the local residents in forced labour. The pond belonged to the manorial court of the princes in Heisterberg and was used for fish farming and as a water reservoir.
