The bronze monument, erected in 1909, is dedicated "To the memory of Ferdinand von Schill and his comrades-in-arms." Ferdinand Baptista von Schill was a Prussian officer who fell in Stralsund on May 31, 1809, during the Napoleonic Wars, after having occupied the city a few days earlier.
