The criminal court building, located at Sievekingplatz 3, was built between 1879 and 1882 according to a design by Hans Zimmermann, who, in addition to the construction of the criminal and civil court buildings, was also responsible for the urban planning of the Justice Forum. The palace-like complex, in the Neo-Renaissance style, specifically incorporates elements of the so-called "German Renaissance." The originally three-winged building was expanded eastward in two construction phases (the northeast wing was constructed in 1895 and 1896) to form a full rectangle (1911 and 1914). Like the civil court building, it serves the Hamburg Regional Court and the District Court. The building is also connected to the Hamburg Remand Prison, located to the north.

The Justice Forum is an ensemble of buildings on Sievekingplatz in Hamburg in the Neustadt, which houses the state's important courts:
- The Hamburg Constitutional Court
- The Hanseatic Higher Regional Court
- The Hamburg Regional Court
- The Hamburg District Court
It consists of three buildings arranged in a U-shape around the square, which has been named after the first Higher Regional Court President Ernst Friedrich Sieveking since 1912.
Previously it was called - together with today's Johannes-Brahms-Platz - Holstenplatz, named after the Holstentor that used to be here.
The center of the complex is the Higher Regional Court, flanked by the two buildings opposite each other, the civil justice building and the criminal justice building.
