The orangery was built in 1719 by Prince Wilhelm the Good of Nassau-Dillenburg as a greenhouse for exotic plants. In the course of time, the building has had a wide variety of uses: first it was a place of worship for the small Lutheran congregation, then (from 1806 - 1893) for the Catholic congregation. Later it served as a gym for the gymnastics club and then as a feed store for the state stud farm. The carriage museum has been housed here since 1970.
