The house, built around 1650, is one of the most artistically significant buildings in the city from the Baroque period.
The area between Hüttenplatz and Kirchberg was inhabited before 1200 and can therefore be described as one of the nuclei of the later town of Dillenburg. The name Hüttenplatz indicates that it was a place where iron and copper ores were smelted; a local ironworks is mentioned for the first time in 1444.

The three-storey half-timbered house of the Stremmel family, which dominates the area, is representative of the half-timbered houses that were restored at great expense. The house, built around 1650, is one of the most artistically significant buildings in the old Orange City from the Baroque period. Originally this building was surrounded by a servants' house and five barns. In the 18th century it served as a well-known inn, similar to today's "Schwarzer Adler" next door.
