Hiking

At around 12:30 a.m., 19-year-old Horst Frank tried to "break through" to West Berlin, as the GDR used to say. On April 29, 1962, however, GDR border guards thwarted an attempt to escape by force of arms, since F(rank) continued to flee, our guards fired seven target shots. F(rank) was transferred to VP Hospital where he died around 4:00 a.m.."

Under the bridge on the southern side of Klemkestrasse stands the memorial cross for Horst Frank (1942 - 1962), who was shot at the seven bridges. His friend Detlef W. managed to escape.

Hiking

There are actually two memorial sites at the Klemkestrasse S-Bahn underpass: On the northern bridge support there is a memorial plaque for Horst Frank, who was shot at this point on the Berlin Wall on April 29, 1962. Directly opposite there is a wooden cross "In memory of all those killed at the Wall" with a special reference to Horst Frank.
