The nature reserve is located in the Harz Nature Park south of Hohegeiß in the valley of the Bärenbach at the foot of the Lampertsberg. It protects a small section of the mountain meadows east of the Hohegeissberg, which are characterized by species-rich meadows with golden oat, mat grass and cinquefoil communities. Wet meadows and wet meadows occur in a marshy depression. The meadows in the nature reserve are divided by tree and shrub hedges.
