The Kollegienhaus, a representative neo-baroque building, was built in 1886-1889 as the central building for academic lectures; Friedrich Wilhelm Scharff drew up the plans. In addition to numerous lecture halls and seminar rooms, the senate hall and an assembly hall were located here, as well as an academic reading room.
On the central avant-corps, the side facing the castle garden, framed by two obelisks, are personifications of the four founding faculties of medicine, philosophy, theology and law, as well as the motto »Veritati - Humanitati - Virtuti« in a cartouche.
