Field of Jammers – memorial site of the former prisoner of war camp in Bretzenheim/Nahe
The memorial on the federal road 48 (Naheweinstraße) between Bretzenheim and Bad Kreuznach was inaugurated in 1966 with the participation of the local population. It stands for the former prisoner of war camp in Bretzenheim, which is well-known far beyond the borders of Germany. It existed from the end of March 1945 to December 31, 1948 on the premises in the Bretzenheim-Winzenheim-Bad Kreuznach triangle as a direct result of World War II, which was started by Nazi Germany. The area behind and on both sides of the memorial, which stretched far to the vineyards, had an area of approx. 400 hectares and was divided into 24 camps. At times it was occupied with about 110,000 prisoners.
