Tips

  • Ulrich 🇺🇦

One of the most beautiful fortresses far and wide, esp. The "natural", worked from the rock keep, which falls steeply to the near, is impressive

A ruined castle, according to legend, built by the devil.
Magnificent view of the Nahe valley

Mega panoramic view down into the Huttental, Bad Münster, the Rotenfels, the Kreuznacher forest ... An excursion is definitely worth it!
    Enjoy the nature!

For the beautiful view over the Nahe valley, every vertical meter to be mastered is worthwhile.

There are beautiful castles and landscapes not only on the Rhine.
Along the Nahe from Bad Münster am Stein via Bad Kreuznach to Bingen you can marvel at the castles and ruins as well as wonderful landscapes.

The Rheingrafenstein ruins are located above the Nahe and Huttental valleys. Highly recommended and with a fantastic view of the Nahe valley.

The climb demands fitness, compensated for it with a terrific view. Unfortunately, the ruin is in a bad condition (as of May 2019). Stairs are destroyed and doors are poorly secured.

The region there has a dense network of very beautiful hiking trails. It runs nicely there during the week. The Rheingrafenstein ruins have flair.

Basically you should wear sturdy shoes.
The path is not suitable for strollers or people with handicaps.
The view from the viewing platform, however, makes up for any effort of the ascent.
Certainly also a highlight to enjoy sunsets - if necessary pack a delicious drop of Nahe wine in your backpack;)

If you come from the goose, you can still visit the castle ruins. The climb is a bit exhausting, but there are plenty of opportunities to rest. The view from the castle offers a view of Bad Münster and the Nahe river.

Even before the castle is (once) on the castle. In any case, you have to go all the way up - even if the way there is narrow and arduous. The view is terrific. And if you are on your way towards Huttental after visiting the Rheingrafenstein, you should look back again: just before the Huttental you can see the remains of the old outer bailey, the Affenstein, which seem to stick to an even steeper, smaller rock.

Very beautiful, winding castle ruins with many fantastic viewpoints. No parking space in the immediate vicinity (luckily 😉)
