This castle was a fortified moated castle in the Middle Ages, until it was converted into a pleasure castle in 1649 by Filips Taye. In 1838 the castle was sold to Count Willem-Bernard de Limburg-Stirum, who had become mayor. Two of his daughters continued to live at the castle until 1926, when their heirs donated it to the municipality. Since 1938, the castle has served as a town hall. Around the castle is a picturesque park with a large pond in the center, a remnant of the former castle garden. The castle was protected as a monument and the immediate surroundings as a landscape by Royal Decree of August 13, 1953.
