However, the biggest problem arose from the rapid deepening of the river bed due to the regulatory measures. The Salzach has dug up to 23 meters deep into its river bed. This can be experienced very clearly, for example, at the Urstein power plant in the Königsseeache estuary or in the section between Bergheim and Oberndorf near Salzburg. These washouts caused the highway bridge to collapse on August 13, 1959.
