highest point in the park or even city - in memory of the deceased princess.
August 23, 2018
The ancient Egyptians erected obelisks to worship their sun god, and generals and emperors demonstrated their power with them. There has also been an obelisk in the castle park of Eisenstadt for more than 100 years.
At the highest point in the palace gardens, it rises 26 meters into the sky: the Eisenstadt obelisk. But he is not the symbol for Egyptian sun gods and powerful generals, but for a sad, personal story.
The stone pillar was built in 1871 by Nicholas III. Built in memory of his late wife Sarah on the highest point in the castle park, told Rupert Schatovich from the Association of Friends of the Eisenstadt Castle Park.

Prince Nicholas III. Esterhazy had met his wife, Lady Sarah, in England, where he spent most of his youth. Castle guide Christian Michalic described not everyone agreed to the love marriage. Because Lady Sarah came from an English Count's family, while the Esterhazys belonged to the high aristocracy.
However, the marriage lasted only a short time: After she had given the prince six children, Lady Sarah died at the age of only 31 years of complications from tuberculosis. She must have been the love of his life. Because Prince Nicholas III. unlike many aristocrats of his time, never married again after the death of his wife.Consignment notice: "Burgenland today", 12.6.2014
