In 1891, the Saxon king had shooting ranges and stables of the Uhlans built on the Bienitz.

In 1893, a building was built for the imperial royal army as the residence of the shooting gallery supervisor - today's "Old Guard".

For over 100 years the building was used for military purposes. At the end of 1989, the military site was dissolved, renatured and the "old and new guard" were restored, among other things with funds from the European Union.

On December 19, 2001, the listed building "Alte Wache" was handed over to the Heimatverein Burghausen for use by the Leipziger Grünflächenamt, which manages the Bienitz area.

Finally, the collected since the establishment of the association exhibits were spotted and archived. The largest room on the ground floor became the showroom.

With donations, including from Verbundnetz Gas, the attic was isolated. After further expansion, it can be used for thematic exhibitions of our exhibits.

The core contents of the exhibitions always deal with Burghausen, its citizens, the Elster-Saale-Kanal or the Bienitz.

Guests are welcome to the opening hours and to separately arranged appointments in the rooms of the old guard. DVD movies and exhibits are available for viewing.

Here, a memorial stone at the foot of the Bienitz reminds of Wehrmacht members who were sentenced to death for destruction of their strength, desertion or self-mutilation and were executed on the firing range.

Furthermore, there is a documentation of the former brewery, which once stood on the B181.
