In 2013, the floodplain forest station developed the Leipzig region's first interactive nature trail app. Children, young people and adults can learn more about the floodplain forest using a smartphone or tablet.

Who can describe it better than the floodplain forest station itself:

Between the White Elster and Luppe, in the northwest of the city, is the Leipzig floodplain forest station. Located at the "entrance" to the Burgaue nature reserve and the Lützschena castle park, it invites visitors all year round to get to know and explore one of the most beautiful and valuable natural areas in the region. The floodplain forest station sees itself as an environmental education center, nature conservation station and cultural site.

On the ground floor of the building and in the outdoor areas, educational boards, photos, brochures and exhibits provide information on numerous environmental and natural topics. The focus is on the Leipzig floodplain forest and the Lützschena castle park.

The floodplain forest station offers a wide range of nature experience hikes, excursions with a research assignment, meditative nature experience programs, workshops and creative workshops for all age groups.

You can find more information under the Environmental Education section.

The building was built in the first half of the 19th century and served the Speck von Sternburg family as a farm building for sheep farming and wheelwrighting. Later, until 1995, the house housed a carpentry workshop for local agricultural businesses. Since 1998, the Auwaldstation has functioned as an environmental education center.

Further information on the goals and tasks of the Auwaldstation can be found in the Auwaldstation's mission statement.
