No exact date is known for the beguinage of Turnhout, but it was probably founded in the 13th century.
The early Classicist gatehouse and the elongated tree-lined square characterize this beguinage. There is a well-preserved Baroque church, infirmary and houses from the 16th and 17th centuries.
The last beguine, Grand Miss Anna De Boer, died in 2002.
