Theresienstein Park is located in the north-east of the inner city of Hof an der Saale in Bavaria. Its history dates back to 1816, making the Theresienstein one of the oldest public parks in Germany. The park is named after Queen Therese Charlotte, the wife of the Bavarian King Ludwig I. From 1861 to 1899, the Hof city councilor Johann Gottlob Thomas had a significant influence on the design.
The park was included in the Bavarian state garden show in Hof in 1994. In 2003 the Theresienstein was awarded the title of Germany's most beautiful park.

Nine Hof painters are immortalized on the stone palette, eight of them from the 19th and 20th centuries. The most famous of these is Johann Christian Reinhart, who belonged to the circle of German artists in Rome (“Deutschrömer”). In Hof, the Reinhart Cabinet, a street and a high school are reminiscent of him. However, he himself did not attend this, but from 1768 what is now the Jean-Paul-Gymnasium, because his father had been vice-principal there.
The Lohe painter dynasty is much older: Andreas and his son Matthäus produced the 90 panels for the coffered ceiling of the Hof Hospital Church in 1688/89. Later, in 1717, Matthäus painted the coffered ceiling of the Marlesreuth church and again had his son Samuel with him when it was revised in 1746/47. Psst! The comma between Andrew and Matthew is missing on the painter's palette...
