The moated castle Fürstenau is located on the MÜmling in the district of Steinbach in the north of Michelstadt. The main castle was built at the beginning of the 14th century as a fortification to protect the monastery's property and expanded into a palace in the 16th century. Other buildings were added in the 18th and 19th centuries. The entire complex today shows a series of different architectural styles.
On both sides of the Mümling, the water level of which is regulated by sluice systems, stretches out the castle garden, which is only partially accessible to the public.
Fürstenau Castle is now used privately. The castle courtyard can be visited, with temporary restrictions.

The Mümling is a left tributary of the Main that is 49.7 km long and 59.7 km long via Mossau and Marbach, which gives the Mümling valley in the Odenwald its name. On the Bavarian side it is also called Mömling, especially on maps and in official documents. (Wikipedia)
