Esplanade Fountains

Very beautiful complex on the edge of the old town. The fountain and the "grotto" are an eye-catcher if you are coming from the Moselle.

After the end of the 18th century. The construction of the 'Jardin de l'Esplanade' only began at the beginning of the 20th century. this fountain added.
It was built under the three supporting arches below the large square. The arches form grottoes that serve as a backdrop for fountains in a large, semicircular pool with three water jets.
There are all sorts of strange sculptures on the arches: including the city's coat of arms between the legs of a toad. At the time of its construction, this arrangement had already caused displeasure among a leading figure of the French nationalists.
