The Heidingsfeld town wall from the late Middle Ages is still largely intact.
In 1367 the construction of the fortifications around the town of Heidingsfeld began. Walls six to eight meters high, 14 towers, a rampart and a moat were built. The wall was interrupted by three town entrances with wooden gates. The wall system was renewed in 1613 and partially improved in the following years. From this time on, especially during the Thirty Years' War, residents of the surrounding villages could find shelter within the Heidingsfeld walls if necessary.
