This gate is located on the east side of the city. An inscription on a hard stone architrave on the landward side tells us that this gate was founded in 1704 by Mayor Benjamin de Beaufort.

With the construction of the higher and heavier fortifications in the 17th century, the gate at the end of the Grote Bagijnestraat had to disappear. This gate has replaced that. Its current form dates from a hundred years later. The passage for cyclists was realized in the nineties of the last century. The name refers to the beguinage that must have been located in this area in the distant past. Because the road outside the gate runs in the direction of Graauw, the gate was later popularly known as Graauwse Poort.
