Two statues are reminiscent of a turbulent era, 'The Eighty Years' War'. One statue is of a vanquished man offering his sword to the victor with his head bowed. The vanquished man stands on a low steel pedestal, the victor on a higher pedestal.

The artwork is by Kathleen Verhegge & Ronald de Maet.

The statues are made of bronze with a base of corten steel.

The Spanish warrior (on the triangular Ravelijn) next to a sunken Spanish ship offers his sword to Frederik Hendrik (on the embankment with lances) as a sign of surrender of the Spanish to the Dutch during the Eighty Years' War.
