The court theater was built in 1770 by order of the Strelitz Duke Adolf Friedrich IV. After an eventful history, after extensive reconstruction in 1992-1994, it was returned to its original purpose.

The Komödienhaus, inaugurated in 1887, was converted into a health resort in 1894. At the end of the Second World War, a military hospital was set up there, and later a workshop. It has been used as a theater again since 1990.
