By the 15th century at the latest, the former Fronhof had developed into a free seat for knights. At the beginning of the 15th century, the lords of Wambeck from Borschemich owned the Keyenberg house. It was also called "Haus Wambeck" until the 17th century. At the end of the 15th century, the lords of Reuschenberg zu Selikum took over the property, but soon sold it to the nobles of Zours.

      History and ownership structure
In the property list of Prüm Abbey from 893, an estate district of Keyenberg, known at the time as "ckeienburhc", is named among others. It consisted of the manor, today's Keyenberg House, a church and 10 dependent farms. Scientists today deduce from the name part “Burhc” that a castle must have existed at that time. However, it is not until 1168 in "Adelbertus de Keyenberch" that a representative of the noble lords of Keyenberg is mentioned for the first time.
At the end of the 14th century, the manor and the Fronhof association fell to the Duchy of Jülich. It was most likely owned by the Count of Are-Hochstaden-Wickrath.
