The war memorial in the shape of a cross located on the Kapellenberg was created by Paul Horn in 1926 to commemorate those who died in the First World War. The 7.5 meter high metal cross with the years 1914–1918 was erected on the Burgberg, today's Kapellenberg. In 1939 the cross was dismantled by the NSDAP city administration and moved to the city cemetery, where it remained for more than 60 years. After reunification, the cross was restored to its original location in 2000 on the initiative of citizens and the city administration. The memorial plaque belonging to the cross with the 68 names of those from Landsberg who died in the war is located in the town church of St. Nicolai.
