    Romanesque double chapel Sanctae Crucis

Visible from afar is the Romanesque double chapel on the porphyry crest in the town of Landsberg. It was castle chapel of the residence castle of the Margraves of the Saxon Ostmark and is the most striking witness of medieval history of Landsberg. The size and significance of the chapel suggest the significance of the former castle complex.

The double chapel is a form of the church and can be found at the cathedrals, castles and royal and episcopal folds of the Salier and Staufer. The most important features of the construction principle are the central ground plan, the four-support system with the "space shaft" and separate accesses to the chapel rooms. The goal was the spatial separation of estates.

A total of 30 structures of this type are known, some only as leftovers or from the tradition. The Landsberg double chapel belongs to a comparative rating on the front ranks. It is one of the largest surviving double chapels, is called "particularly noble plant" and exhibits the original structure.

The Landsberg double chapel Sanctae Crucis perched on the porphyry rock for about 800 years. Once the castle chapel of the Residenzburg of the Margraves of the Saxon Ostmark, probably built by the Margrave Konrad von Landsberg, it is today called the largest preserved double chapel.
