The George Dock Building is the heart of the Mersey Tunnels, which run from Liverpool under the Mersey to Birkenhead and Wallasey. Both tunnels (Queensway Tunnel and Kingsway Tunnel) are monitored by a 12-man control center on a 24/7 shift, located in the George Dock Building. There are also 5 ventilation towers with huge fans with a diameter of 28 meters that bring fresh air into the tunnel and suck out bad air. In front of the building there is a lovingly restored toll booth, as it was in use when the Queensway Tunnel opened.

The George's Dock Building is a listed building in Liverpool. It is located at Pier Head on the city's waterfront. It is part of the former UNESCO World Heritage Maritime Mercantile City in Liverpool. It was built in the 1930s in the Art Deco style according to the designs of the architect Herbert Rowse. The office space includes Merseytravel, Mersey Tunnels staff and The Mersey Tunnels Police. It also houses ventilation machines for the Queensway Tunnel and the Mersey Tunnels Tour Offices.
The east facade on the beach holds a memorial to the 17 men who died during the nine years of tunnel construction.
