The Protestant church in Dachtel was first mentioned in 1275 and remodeled in 1599/1601 by Heinrich Schickhardt in the late Gothic style, forming a choir side tower as a preaching church with a three-eighth choir and the interior features of a transverse church (pulpit on the south wall with a visible staircase, pews on the ground floor, and later the three-sided gallery aligned with the pulpit).

After a fire in 1766, the church was rebuilt on its foundations in 1767 by the church council's master builder Wilhelm Friedrich Goez from Ludwigsburg, almost true to the original: the altar table and baptismal font were aligned with the church axis, the pulpit remained in its original location, the sacristy on the tower's ground floor was positioned on the south wall, and galleries were located on the west, north, and east sides (i.e., in the shallow, enclosed choir).

Architect Johannes Wetzel oversaw the modernization of the church from 1969 to 1972, removing almost the entire interior of the church from 1767 and renovating it in the modernist style. Only the 30 Dachtel catechism pictures from around 1787 were restored and installed in the new west gallery. A community hall was set up beneath this gallery, with a kitchenette and restrooms located in the church basement.

During another interior renovation in 2005, a choir window designed by Sabina Hunger (theme: resurrection of the dead and eternal life) was installed.
