The builder of the castle, which still exists today, was Jakob von Gültlingen (d. 1600). A stone on the ground floor bearing the date 1592 likely marks the start of construction. In order to begin the prestigious new construction of his family residence, he had to take on significant debt. In 1592, he also asked his sovereign for permission to pledge the village of Deufringen as collateral to a lender for 12 years. In his letter, he lamented the dilapidated condition of the old half-timbered building his ancestors had erected there, which clearly no longer met his standards for a residence befitting his status. Elsewhere, for example, in Mauren (1617), Mötzingen (from c. 1581-83), and Poltringen, the local nobility also invested in new, modern family residences.

As early as the 14th century, a previous building is suspected to have been built on the site of the castle. The current palace was built in 1592 by Heinrich Schickhardt under the Schorndorf Obervogt Jakob von Validlingen. The noble family of the Validlingers held the fief from 1402 to 1699. The castle was the family seat until 1699. In that year Johann Conrad von Validlingen gave the fiefdom to the House of Württemberg. It passed it on to Privy Councilor von Schütz, who returned it in 1726. Already in 1746 it was converted into a pastorate. The building was used by the Protestant community until 1976 and was owned by the state of Baden-Württemberg. The municipality bought the castle in 1977 to house the town hall there. As the already existing listed town hall could not be demolished, it was decided to set up a community center. The vaulted cellar is used for jazz concerts.
